We keep hearing how we're in an economic crisis. On a macro scale, the government is spending trillions, unemployment is high, stocks are low, nobody can buy or sell a house or car, big business is getting billions to stall their ultimate failure, and we're apparently going to never recover from this.
Or so we keep getting told...
But what I want to know is if this is true from your personal point of view. As far as layoffs, I have 2 close friends that have been laid off since January, but I also know of companies that are forging ahead and actually in a growth mode, hiring, and profitable. I know from a personal point of view that things haven't been busier. One of my friends, that was laid off in January, has a new job and is doing far better than he was before. My other friend was laid off last week. He has two months severance, plus a month of vacation, so he's taking a bit of a break before he gets back to it.
I think layoffs are an important part of a capitalistic economy. They are natural and expected from time to time. They make it possible for companies and individuals to reset and start something new, become more efficient, and ultimately become more profitable.
How are you weathering this financial storm? Have you even noticed anything substantial? The only real change I've seen lately is that my soda of choice is $4.50 a 12 pack - up from around $3. In the end, even this is probably a good thing. If I'll drink less soda, maybe I'll lose a couple of pounds around the waist.
I'd love to hear your feedback.

It looks like it truncated your response. I've fixed this so we shouldn't have this problem anymore. If you wouldn't mind, please edit your reply with the rest (I'm really interested in your opinion).
Thanks!
