Business Databases - Applications and Uses

Continuing the topic of various business topics, today I will take a look at why you might want to buy a business database.

There are many online and brick and mortar businesses that could use a business database.  The business database I am talking about is a list of over 20,000,000 businesses.  All of these businesses are located in the United States, and the huge database is broken down by state.  Additionally, it is ready to use in your MSQL applications, giving one a wealth of information immediately.

The uses of a large database such as this that we will look at include using it for sales leads, and using it to create web sites for profit.

Using a business database for sales leads is pretty self explanatory.  If you are a business that has other businesses as clients, I don't have to tell you the value of having a database of over 20 million US based businesses from which to market.  Whether marketing through direct mail or setting up some kind of phone campaign with a predictive dialer or even an auto dialer (be sure to check your local regulations and laws for these types of marketing campaigne), the database is easily imported and you are off and running immediately.

The second use for such a huge database that we will look at is using it for web site applications.  There are numerous application uses for a US company database.  You can create a yellow page directory, a local directory, or even a national directory sorted by company type.

When creating web sites of this nature, there are just as many ways to make money with them as there are types of directories you can create.  If you run the directories yourself, you can market and sell advertising space.  A good way to do this is to put together a local yellow page site and get it ranking well in the search engines.  Location specific keywords are relatively easy to rank for, and once you have good rankings on various pages, selling advertising space to your local businesses is much easier.  For example, it may be very tough to rank well for the keyword "plumbers", but to rank on the first page of google for "anycity plumbers" is not a difficult task.

Another way to make money with these directory type web sites is to create them and sell them.  Once you have a template and the business database to create the back end needed, it is not hard to create a number of sites.  It becomes a cookie cutter type of process.  Once you have the sites created, you can sell them in a number of ways.  Take a look on Ebay sometime and see all the sites for sale.  People love the yellow page type of web sites, and they are good sellers.

They key in all of this is having a solid database of us companies to draw from.  These sell online for a wide range of prices, I've seen very similar lists selling for around $1,000.  More commonly, you will find them selling for the $300 range.  The least expensive business database for sale I've seen, however, runs $50.  A great value, over 20 million US businesses, ready for your application now.

Healthy living tips - a startup

One of my side projects is a site geared towards giving people advice on how to live healthy.  It is a relatively new project as of the writing of this post, but if you are interested to see the evolution of a site from the ground up, tune in.

This site was put together using a wordpress blog template.  This allows for easy updates.  I have various plugins that I use on my worpress themed blogs, including a meta creater to make the pages more search engine friendly, and a comment plugin that really cuts down on the spam.

Healthy living is a broad enough topic that I should never run out of things to write about.  In addition, there are several niches within the overall subject that I should be able to monetize in some way shape or form, while giving good solid advice that is useful.

I've started the site with some articles on how to get rid of acne fast.  This is a topic that appeals to a wide audience, and one that I am familiar enough with to be able to write about.  Acne gives grief to old and young alike, and is a good way to get this site started.

A post I do like a lot has to do with a home remedy for getting rid of acne and pimples.  Does toothpaste get rid of pimples takes a look at a quick and easy overnight treatment that does actually work!  I will be adding a few more posts on the topic of acne and how to achieve clear skin before moving on to the next topic.

I will be covering topics related to losing weight, diets for diabetics, exercise routines that work and more.  As I mentioned before, this is more of a side project for me, so the evolution of the site will take place over a period of a few months, but check it out and feel free to give me any advice or feedback, it is always appreciated!

Deep link directories and their advantage to your SEO campaign

When putting together an seo campaign, a link strategy is extremely important.  In addition to having unique content that is a benefit to your readers, it is also important to have authority sites linking to your pages.

When most people first get into their link building campaign, they focus mainly on the home page.  This seems reasonable, the home page is your main entrance to your site.  This is the way you would like most people to come to your site, but if you stop at just building links to your home page, you are doing yourself a disservice.

What I would like to talk about is the value of deep links.  Deep links are links from other pages on the web that link to your internal pages, not your home page.  They can be more difficult to obtain, but the rewards are tremendous.

Typically, your internal pages are going to target the lower traffic, lower competetion keywords.  Many times these keywords do not take as much to get ranked well in the search engines than the more competetive ones you may have chosen for your home page.  With a good complete link building campaign, you are going to have a deep link element to it.

One place to start your deep link campaign is with a deep link directory.  There are a number of deep link directories out there, you just need to do some research.  Some are paid, others are free, and yet others require a link back to their site in exchange for your deep link.  If you are looking to get started, you can take a look at this list of deep link directories.

Check back in, I will be looking at more internet marketing tactics in the coming weeks.
