New UK stainless price increase

Outokumpu have announced a second stainless steel base price increase of the year for the UK market. The first increase of 7% was applied for new production commencing April 2009 and now today have announced as below:- Stainless Steel Flat & Tubular Products

European Stainless price increases

Following Outokumpu's lead in late February where they announced base price increased for stainless deliveries for March from stock and April on new production other mills have now followed . Other European stainless steel mills, such as ThyssenKrupp and Arcelor Mittal have raised base price for April 2009 to compensate the dropping alloy surcharge. The new prices for austenitic grade 304 will increase by USD 50 to USD 100 per tonne to USD 900 to USD 950 per tonne.

Anti dumping duties reccomended

Unfazed by a World Bank report highlighting India as the most active nation in anti-dumping measures, the commerce ministry has recommended levying such a duty on import of stainless steel from China, the European Union and six other countries . Acting on a petition by Jindal Stainless Ltd, the pre-dominant domestic producer of stainless steel, the Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties has recommended a maximum levy of $1,823 per tonne on import of cold-rolled flat stainless prod uct from China, officials said.

India stainless users try to stop Anti-Dumping

In India stainless steel importers and end users including plant & machinery manufacturers and stainless steel utensil and kitchen ware producers have urged the PM Dr Manmohan Singh and the commerce minister Mr Kamal Nath to immediately roll back the anti dumping investigation initiated against imports of cold rolled flat products of stainless steel originating from various countries including China, Europe, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand and USA based on complaint filed by a stainless steel manufacturer in the country
